At Shugarman Architecture + Design, we believe that good design is not just something you see, but something you feel. As a multidisciplinary studio firm, we practice architecture, interior design, furniture design, and urban design to create rich, elegant, relaxed, and authentic environments. Led by principal architect Michael Shugarman, our team has a singular passion: to provide our clients with the very best in design.

As a studio firm, we meld these disciplines to create entirely bespoke environments. Every client receives our full attention and involvement, and we apply the same sensitivity, attention to detail, and professional rigor to every project, regardless of discipline. Our team is comprised of experienced professionals who specialize in various areas of design, including principal architect Michael Shugarman, senior interior designers Crystal Koopman and Melanie Brant, senior architects Sean Lee and Joel Piecowye, 3D renderer Michael Ferster, and intern architects Ilhan Ozdemir and Bryce Clayton.

Sustainable Design

At Shugarman Architecture + Design, we believe that sustainability is not just a consequence of good design, but a fundamental aspect of our practice. Michael Shugarman's experience in the kiln drying operation in Quebec and his work with Antonio Citterio in Italy have influenced his approach to sustainability. We promote the use of recycled materials and responsibly forested woods. We prefer oil finishes to synthetic technologies and treat color as an expression of the natural condition of the selected material. We also value the input of suppliers and trades, and strive to create density and mixed-use developments in an urban context while being sensitive to natural landscapes.
